“Copp Cemetery is probably our most historic cemetery and has the first documented burial in 1776.
Mary Butler, who married Lt. Ebenezer Eastman, gained fame when she took her son and rode from Gilmanton to Cambridge, MA to learn the fate of her husband after the Battle of Bunker Hill. Both and their family are buried here. There were some stones stolen from the cemetery and eventually made their way to Sturbridge Village and they were recovered and returned to our town.”
