The Experience

What to know & what to expect

2024 Tour Dates & Locations are live! Check the calendar + map on the homepage and the full schedule here to find an event near you. Please visit your state of interest to learn more about an upcoming workshop location, history and contact information.

Every workshop will be unique and have somewhat different content dependent upon the varying preservation needs! Since these events are site specific, we will discuss topics relating to the region where each event is held. We will make a concerted effort to perform as many different types of repairs as possible that represent the most common problems associated with gravestone preservation.

All 48 State Tour events are free and open to the public! -Some localities may request pre-registration. Information on how to register will be available on the event page. We try to present as much info as we can! Any additional information regarding a location (i.e. accommodations, restroom facilities, etc.) can be directed toward the local host.

We are excited to travel the country during the upcoming tour and we hope to meet you in person to teach you how to repair and preserve gravestones and monuments, one cemetery at a time.

HOSTING AN EVENT

We are always looking for event co-hosts and locations to add to our database. When we are in the planning stages of an upcoming tour, we will reach out to you if your location works well along the route! An event host is typically a county, town, organization or society that is in charge of the cemetery. We often receive location suggestions as well that may lead to a connection with the ‘people in charge.’

We also request the local event co-host to supply a couple of big & bulky supplies that we are not able to travel with. Otherwise, we provide and bring with us all other specialized supplies and tools for the day!

Please let us know if you have a suitable location or want to help host an event. Email us at 48states48days@gmail.com or contact us here with your Name, Town, County, State, Cemetery, and Organization (if applicable)

Interested in co-hosting an event?
Here is what we need from you

  • 1. Cemetery Location

First we need a location! An ideal location is a historic cemetery (or a cemetery with historic sections) that contains a number of stones in need of cleaning + repair. A cemetery with special significance is always a bonus, and accessibility is a must. Room for attendees to park, easy to find from the road, etc.

  • 2. Permission

Most importantly, we need permission to hold a workshop here. This will come from whomever is in charge, or the owner, of the cemetery. This is typically a town, county, organization, or church, but can also be one person.

  • 3. Water

Water is a key component to cleaning, re-setting and re-leveling stones and monuments. Some cemeteries have running water available. If not, we kindly request the event co-host to provide water for the workshop!

  • 4. Crushed Stone or Gravel

Similar to water, crushed stone/gravel is necessary to facilitate gravestone & monument repair work and is very bulky and heavy. We request the local co-host to provide this material, which can typically be found at your local hardware store, garden center, or nursery.

  • 5. Photos

We like to include photos on our event pages so that the cemetery is recognizable. We are extremely careful about pulling photos off of websites. Please send us original photos of the cemetery or let us know if there are images on your website or social media that we can use. (Entrance of the cemetery, shots of historic stones, broken stones, nice views, etc.)

  • 6. Promotion

Let’s spread the word! We will create event pages on this website, as well as our social media pages. Share these events online and in person and create your own. We will link your promotions and share as much as possible leading up to the workshop.
