“The Town of Canton, Maine celebrated their Bicentennial in 2021. In recognition of our forefathers in 2019 four ladies started cleaning the stones of the movers and shakers of the day. We hired a company to repair stones in 2019 and 2020. They taught us many of the techniques but as there are now only three of us involved and Canton has 14 cemeteries. Although we have cleaned over 600 stones and repaired numerous others, we simply can’t keep up. This cemetery is located on an extremely busy road with high visibility; it also has a large number of Civil War veterans buried there.”
