“A little background on St. Joseph… It's located 50 minutes north of Kansas City and sits along the Missouri River. Initially, the "town" was settled and founded by a fur trader, Joseph Robidoux. Shortly, thereafter it became a trading post and point of departure/river crossing for the California/Oregon Trail. Next, the Pony Express started here in 1860 and the outlaw Jesse James "ended" here in 1882. As you can see, there is an incredible amount of rich and well-preserved history in St. Joseph.
Mount Mora Cemetery is a historical site which was established in 1851, sits on twenty acres, and is the oldest cemetery in the city. Mount Mora is the final resting place for three Missouri governors, a Pony Express riders, numerous Civil War veterans (both sides), many of the first and most prominent setters in Northwest Missouri, as well as countless common citizens. As you can imagine, there are numerous tablets, obelisks and over twenty mausoleums.”
