The New Haven, Connecticut, burial ground, opened 1796, is the oldest cemetery in the nation designed as a “city of the dead,” with named avenues and cross streets. A National Historic Landmark, it is also the first chartered burial ground in the United States and the first to be arranged in family lots.

The Grove Street Cemetery is a National Historic Landmark, being the first Chartered Cemetery in America, in which families could finally purchase full family lots instead of just individual graves. Also we have plenty of historical figures that were important to the evolving of America, including but not limited to, Eli Whitney, Noah Webster, Roger Sherman, Charles Goodyear, Walter Camp, and so many others.
