Founded in 1847, Rock Creek Cemetery serves as the final resting place for many Oregon Pioneers and Civil War Veterans. This picturesque rural cemetery is complemented by the adjacent Rock Creek Church, constructed in 1858. Recognized for its historical significance, the church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
Rock Creek Cemetery holds a significant place in Oregon's history, being one of the oldest burial grounds in the state with its first interment dating back to 1852. Noteworthy among them is Jessie Moreland, who traversed the Oregon Trail and became one of the first circuit preachers in our county. The cemetery garnered attention from renowned historian W. W. Morrison, drawn to its abundance of early pioneer graves. Reflecting the deep-rooted connections, several county roads are named after families laid to rest in Rock Creek.
