Cemetery Background/Info
Odd Fellows Cemetery was established in 1880 by the Banner Lodge of the Odd Fellows Fraternal Order. It was enlarged in the 1880's by other fraternal and sororal community organizations for the internment of Knoxville's African American citizens. Knoxville's first African American millionaire, first African American lawyer, and (19) 1st USCHA (First United States Colored Heavy Artillery) veterans are buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Through land stewardship and community engaged projects, Knoxville Re-Animation Coalition, the University of TN, and our community partners have helped to preserve the cemetery and reengage it with the surrounding neighborhoods.
